There is a lot of really exciting stuff coming up in the Texas pole world. I just received word today, that the wonderful ladies behind the Melee on the Bayou Pole Dance Competition are gearing up for the 2nd Annual event. This is going to be a fantastic competition that showcases the talented ladies of Houston’s pole community. The competition is limited to ladies of the greater Houston Metro area, so be sure to check out the rules and requirements.
The competition will be held on December 8, 2012 at Grooves of Houston, 2300 Pierce St, Houston, TX 77003. Starts at 5pm. Dallas pole ladies…anyone else thinking ROAD TRIP?!?!
Another pole competition….umm yea!!! If you haven’t heard, the Southern Pole Championships will be going on in Houston on November 3, 2012. Now, you’d think that with all the stress of MTPS tryouts and waiting for the finalists to be announced, that the last thing I’d be considering is entering another competition. Well surprisingly (even to myself), I was actually super excited to hear about another pole competition here in Texas! It is amazing to see how the pole community keeps growing and all of the new opportunities for us to showcase our talents…and I’m determined to be a part of it.
What I like about this competition is that it caters to a variety of styles and levels, and tryout videos are NOT required…which means that there is NO reason for YOU not to enter. If you’re looking to show off your pole style without the typical competition stress then The Showcase Event was made for you. This event is a performance-only event. No scoring nor feedback from judges will be given and this event will not qualify for later competitions.
If you’re looking for a challenge (and some great competition) then be sure to check out the other three competitive categories. In addition to a different performance style, each features three skill levels – beginner, intermediate and advanced.
The Championship Event: This event is for those dancers wishing to compete with a traditional technical competitive program. Designed to offer competitors the type of experience found at the other major pole competitions, the focus will be on the dancer’s technique, flexibility, artistry and difficulty of tricks.
The Artistic (Light Entertainment) Event: This event is focused less on the difficulty of the tricks executed and more on the dancer’s ability to interpret a piece of music to provide a comical or upbeat performance (as opposed to a more dramatic and serious performance).
The Artistic (Dramatic) Event: This event is focused less on the difficulty of the tricks executed and more on the dancer’s ability to present a serious, emotional artistic interpretation of a piece of music.
I think the best way to excel in all areas of pole is to explore all areas. So part of my personal pole growth is fueled by taking classes at all of the studios here in the DFW…plus it’s a great way to meet more awesome pole friends. Here’s a list of the local studios that I’ve poled at.
So as the pole community continues to grow, we are seeing various avenues that dancers are taking. While still a form of fitness for many, others are turning their attention to teaching, competing, showcasing and more. Pole dancing has also become a gateway into other aerial arts such as silks and hoops. While competing and teaching may not be the next step for many (like myself), showcasing our skills is something that is definitely of interest.
Sadly the July Girl Next Door Event had to be put on hold (although the March GND Texas premier was magnificent!). So the awesome Karen Possessky came up with a great idea to host the New York New York themed pole fund raising event. The New York New York event is an opportunity to showcase Texas pole talent, while raising money for Texas Pole Dancers that are interested in competing. The New York New York pole dancing fundraiser is right around the corner, so be sure to get your tickets.

Aerial Acrobatics, Dance, Comedy, NYC Ambiance & Fundraising for Performing Arts – see the millennial refinement of pole dancing that has some of our very own Texas Dancers competing and performing among nationally-ranked talent in NYC, Hollywood and Las Vegas.
Bring enough dough (cash) for the 50/50 raffle so that the Godfather doesn’t need to have a sit-down with you after the show. Respect the family.
Naturally, when Girl Next Door announced it would be premiering in Dallas (March 2012) this was a great new opportunity that offered our pole community a sense of performance fulfillment…without the stress of competitions. Competitions are rewarding but they aren’t for everyone. So a pole showcase to pull together our Texas pole talent was definitely what we needed! I skipped the auditions because I didn’t feel I was ready, however I was still lucky to be involved in the event doing something else that I love: Photography!
It was an honor and inspiration to be at the GND Texas event photographing all of the stunning performances. If you missed the event or if you just want to reminisce then be sure to check out the photos from the amazing event.

I am happy to announce the launch of FLIGHT CLUB Dallas! Those who know me know that I’ve been wanting to start a pole club here in Dallas for a while now. So it is super exciting that it is finally happening and that we are able to do it as a part of Aerial Amy’s Flight Club. What is Flight Club? Flight Club is open pole time by pole dancers, for pole dancers. Flight Club offers a relaxed practice environment that promotes the growth and development of the pole community – in a supportive social setting.
Flight Club Dallas is open to all pole ladies in the DFW area – and also to our fellow pole sisters that may be passing through the DFW area. The first Flight Club Dallas Pole Jam is scheduled for August (more details to come). Flight Club Pole Jams will allow a space to practice, swap pole insight and showcase your favorite pole moves. (This is a practice environment where we can share tips and tricks, however it is NOT a teaching environment. If you are looking to receive pole instruction then be sure to check out my DFW pole studio roll call for a list of local studios.)
Be sure to join the Flight Club Dallas group on Facebook to learn more about Flight Club Dallas and upcoming open pole jams. Contact us by email at: flightclubdallas [at] gmail.com
The only goal of FLIGHT CLUB is to create opportunities for practice, dance, and performance for anyone who wants one… Regardless of ability, age, weight, physical fitness level, or studio affiliation.
The only thing you need, is desire. By sharing, playing, and laughing together, we grow as a community.
Let’s let that which does not truly matter…slide. Let’s fly.
For the last 9 months I have been on a fitness journey with the help of my awesome trainer.
After 4 years of back-to-back injuries (4 broken feet, a foot surgery and most recently a broken pinky toe) my body increased and expanded in ways I never expected. Honestly, I don’t think I realized how out of shape I was until I started working towards getting in shape.
With the help of a supportive and trainer and a lot of determination, I have been able to drop 30 lbs and tone up. Stay tuned to learn more about how I found fitness.
OK, so I am new to this whole blogging thing, but I think it will help me find out more about myself and get back to who I used to be so that I can realize who I was always meant to be.
This probably makes sense to no one but me and I am OK with that. The journey that I begin is not just here, it is a makeover of my life completely and blogging is just going to be one aspect of it. It is my hope that I can not only share some things, but also learn some things.I have always been interested in Entertainment, and not until I started college did I realize taht there were so many career fields and opportunities within the industry. I have been blessed with talent, determination, great communication skills and well. . . good looks 🙂
These things have all helped me achieve so much already and keep me focused on achieving more in the future. I will use my new blog as a forum to discuss and reflect on the things in my life as it pertains to reaching my ultimate goals and being the Goddess of Entertainment that I was destined to be. From writing, editing and designing to photography, videography and radio, I am going to share it all. As you will soon learn, I love everything entertainment, music, film and fashion related. Think of the Goddess Entertainment blog as your online blogging entertainment magazine. . .except with a lot of facts, tips tricks and maybe some tutorials 😉
Tryout video in and now the wait begins! August 1st can come soon enough.
I honestly went into tryouts thinking that it would be easier this year, I mean I’m seasoned right? Boy was I wrong! Despite being 30lbs lighter, way stronger, dancing with more confidence and performing moves with a higher skill level, putting together my tryout piece (and the mental stress that accompanied it) was a challenge.
While I am super proud of myself for the handwork and dedication I put in, the last few weeks have definitely taken a toll on me physically and emotionally. My body is tired and sore…and all I can think about now is:
– Were my toes pointed enough?
– Will I make it to the finals?
– Should I have re-recorded (again)?
– If I make it, what song, theme and moves should I use?
Needless to say the next 2 weeks are going to drive me crazy! In the meantime I guess I will use the “down time” to get back in the gym and refocus on this body. 20 more pounds to go…RCI!
