Community Masterclass Part 1
Hey friends, Let’s talk about the elephant in the room…
We preach “transformation”, support,” “growth,” “community” and “collaboration” to students to get them in the door. We hype up the power of camaraderie, inclusion and a thriving community in every piece of marketing we put out.
But what about the instructors who are the face of your brand and who are also on the front line teaching classes and delivering on that promise? Why is their growth treated like a risk?
The truth is you can’t successfully market a place of community and personal transformation if you’re actively hindering the personal transformation of your team.
But here’s the thing, it doesn’t have to be that way. Imagine if the norm was to support instructors as they discovered their voice, built their brand identity, grew their following, and sought out sponsors and ambassadorships.
Right now, the norm is often fear and scarcity. It’s the silent, toxic policy (okay sometimes its actually written into a legal document) that says, “grow too big, and you’re a threat.” You’re afraid instructors will leave, so you subtly (or not so subtly) limit (or full out restrict) their growth outside of your studio walls.
The Truth: Limiting their growth limits your studio’s potential and thus your student’s potential.
So Let’s flip the script. Stop seeing your instructors’ individual success as a threat and start viewing it as the most powerful marketing tool you could ever have AND lean in! A studio that’s full of powerful, thriving, well-supported instructor-entrepreneurs that represents your student body is a studio that students will whole-heartedly want to run to. And that wider reach and network that instructors build, will follow them right back to your studio.
SO Ask yourself: Are you genuinely supporting your community builders, or just using them, their names, their image, their likeness?
The next level of success for your studio isn’t about control; it’s about TRUE collaboration. Ditch that scarcity mindset. Encourage outside opportunities. Stop hoarding the spotlight and start shining it on your team and celebrate their external wins with the same energy you celebrate a fully booked class.
